Red Cross workers and embassy officials report damage in capital Port Vila after quake hit 30km to the west of the city
A 7.3-magnitude earthquake struck Vanuatu’s capital of Port Vila on Tuesday, causing “considerable damage” to some buildings, including a shared diplomatic mission, as injured people were rushed to hospital.
The powerful quake struck 30km west of the capital at a depth of 57.1km, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said, and was followed by a magnitude 5.5 aftershock.
